Do you meet with me to discuss the design?
In most cases we do not meet with our clients unless you live in the local area and would like to discuss it in person. We are good at being able to understand what you need with some phone calls and emails.
How do I go about getting a website?
We will discuss your needs with you and then follow up with a written quotation. If you accept the quotation the first thing we need is a 30% deposit. We will also send you a design checklist to collect as much information as possible as to how you’d like the website to look.
From there we start the design.
Do I see my website before it goes live?
Yes. We will send you a picture mock-up of the website before going ahead and building it. If there are any changes you’d like to make that is the point to say what you would like to be different.
Once the website is built and content added you will have a chance to review it all before it goes live to the general public.
How long does it take?
This depends on a number of factors such as how big the website is; how much interactivity is included in the website; how much work we have on-going etc. Normally a 5 page website can be done within less than 2 weeks. A larger website, such as an online shop, could take up to 6 weeks.
One of the things that adds time is waiting for content. If all content is provided at the beginning that is ideal and will enable us to build your website as quickly as possible.
If you have a particular deadline that needs to be met let us know and we will do our best to make it.
After the website is completed do you offer any follow up support?
Yes. We are always here to help! If you haven’t opted for a content management system we can update the website for you. If you do have a content management system we are still here to help if anything goes wrong.
For online shops and content management systems, the quote will usually include 1 hour of support after completion. After that it is a good idea to budget for the occasional hour of work if you need updates or help with the website.
How do I update my website?
Your website can be built using a content management system which means you can login to a password protected admin tool and update the contents. You should have some familiarity with using a computer to use this tool but having said that, it’s not very complicated.
If you don’t opt for the content management system we can do the updates for you at our hourly rate. Updates are usually done within 24-48 hours depending on how much needs to be done. If you have a major update to do we would schedule this in and let you know when it will be done.
How much does a website cost?
That depends on the size of the website and the complexity. A simple 4 page website could cost £432 (inc VAT), whereas a fully functioning, specially designed online shop could cost £1578 (inc VAT). We quote on a job by job basis so be as clear as possible in your request for a quote.
Do you re-design existing sites?
Yes we do. A website can start to look out-dated after a couple of years or you may never have been happy with the original design. Either way we can take the existing site and re-design using the same content or start from scratch with new content. We offer a 10% discount on a new website if we can get all the content (text, images etc) from your existing site.
Someone else designed my website, can you update it?
Yes we can. We just need the access details to be able to get in and edit the content.
What is hosting?
Hosting is another word for web-space. This is the space on the internet where your website resides or is “hosted”. We provide free hosting for the first year.
What is a domain name?
The domain name is your unique name that identifies the website. It’s the bit that comes after the www. For example in www.yourdomain.co.uk yourdomain.co.uk is the domain name.
Can you buy the domain name for me?
Yes we can. We will register it in your name and will need your name, address and telephone number. This way you are the owner for the domain and have full control over it.
Can I move my website away from your company in the future?
Yes you can. Once the website is completed and you’ve paid for it, the website is yours. The domain name will be registered in your name so you can move it whenever you like as long as there are no outstanding debts to us (such as fees for updates done).
Do I need to transfer my domain to you?
If you already have a domain name registered it isn’t necessary to transfer the domain to us. If you also have hosting with the domain name we should be able to use that to build your website. In some cases your package might not include all requirements in which case we can advise on an upgrade or transfer to our hosting platform.
If you don’t transfer your domain name to us you must make sure it stays renewed at the appropriate time otherwise your website will go offline.
Do you provide email accounts?
Yes. Each hosting account comes with email addresses. This makes your communication look professional rather than using a Gmail or Hotmail email address.
Do you do search engine optimisation?
All our sites are built to be search-engine “friendly”. This means they are built with the basics in place so a search engine can find your website. This includes ensuring copy contains important keywords and phrases that someone might use to search for your service. We will also send you more information on actions you can take to increase the chances of high ranking in the search engines.
My website has just gone online but I can’t find it in the search engines, why?
It can take 6-8 weeks for a website to be listed in the search engines. Just be patient and it will get indexed at some point. Sometimes you’ll be lucky and it happens within days!
Do I need to know anything technical about websites?
No, absolutely not! We take care of the whole process from design to get the website online. All you have to do is tell us what you want.
