Version: 2.01

SYNOPSIS
A generic processing script for website forms with a captcha box. (Does not work on servers running Windows)

Installation of Perl form

1. Unzip the files init_generic.pl and generic.pl and upload to your cgi-bin which is below your root directory (usually public_html - sometimes www or wwwroot etc..)

Directory structure for form

3. Set permission 755 on both files.
On a standard server set-up, this will look like this:

cgi-bin/init_generic.pl
cgi-bin/generic.pl

4. Put this address into your browser http://wwww.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/init_generic.pl (change yoursite.com to whatever your web address is)
Follow through the set-up screens to install the test form.

This will create the following folders and files that don't exist already:

data/
data/test_form.cfg configuration file for test_form
data/sid/ directory where session files are stored

public_html/passcode/ directory where session passphrase images are stored
public_html/template/ directory where html templates are stored, one per form
public_html/template/test_form.htm a simple template for test_form

5. Put the following address into your browser: http://www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/generic.pl?form=test_form (changing yorusite.com to whatever your site address is)

Once you are there fill out the form and submit then make sure you receive an email that goes to the email you entered in step 4.

6. Now that you have your test form working you can install your own form.

6.1 Decide the form name, say request_quote for example.
6.2Create aconfiguration file by making a copy of data/test_form.cfg and rename to whatever you want.
6.3Create html page and style to look like your website public_html/template/request_quote.htm
As a starting point, use a suitable html page from your home directory. Remove all the content you don't need.
The template must have a %REQUEST_QUOTE% placeholder which generic.pl will populate with the generated form.
View this file in the browser on the live site. Verify there are no broken links.
6.4 Load the form in the browser
http://www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/generic.pl?form=request_quote (this is the address you will link to from your menu or whever you link is located)
6.5 Fill out the form, submit it and verify it's working.

That's it. You're done.
