4 Ways to Keep your Website Current

uptodateIt’s important to keep your website up-to-date and current for a number of reasons:

  • It brings people back to the website
  • It helps with search engine listing
  • It shows you’re alive and well!

When you come across a website that has news from over a year ago you might wonder if the company is still there and it might put you off contacting them.

The following are some ways to keep your website current:

  1. Blog, blog and blog!
A blog can be used to post latest news, general information or just a platform to communicate to the world out there. Blogging on a regular basis, even if just once a month, will show you’re still in business and have something to say – and you can pass on some useful information at the same time.
  2. Testimonials
When you complete a job for someone ask them for a review and post this on your website. A page full of real testimonials is like gold dust when it comes to making a decision about whether or not to use your services.
  3. Special Offers
It’s good to provide special offers but make sure you change them from time to time. A special offer that’s still there a year later is not really “special”! This could be 10% discount or buy one get one free, or recommend a friend for a discount etc.
  4. Videos
Putting a video on your website has double the effect. Firstly it gives a good visual communication to your website visitor. Secondly, it’s likely to show up in Google if it’s posted on YouTube – especially if the heading is “how to….”. I just did a test and for all 3 questions I asked “how to…” there was a video result as the 3rd or 4th listing on the first page of Google.

As mentioned at the beginning, changing content regularly can help with your search engine listings. Here’s an article that sheds more light on the subject.

You may need help from your webmaster to do the above, unless you have a WordPress based website or some other content management system. Either way it’s easy to do and will go a long way to helping you keep your website fresh and up-to-date.
