4 Tips for Using Facebook in Business

Facebook is a popular platform for social interaction which can be used to your advantage as a business. Here are just 4 things that can help get the most out of it:

  1. BUSINESS PAGE: Creating a page is the first step. A page is different than your basic profile and contains specific postings and pictures about your business. A page can be advertised, a page is “liked” and followed by people. Anyone following/liking your business page should be able to see any posts you make but they can’t see your personal profile.
  2. COVER IMAGE: At the top there’s a nice space to include an image which communicates instantly what your business is about. You can even include a call to action to get people to contact you. The cover image can be changed from time to time especially if you have a special message you want to communicate at certain times. Two tools to help you make cover images are www.canva.com and www.photocollage.com. They give the exact dimensions so all you need to do is add the content. Additional tip: If you use Twitter and/or LinkedIn use the same design for your cover images so it gives a continuity of branding across all social media platforms.
  3. POST REGULARLY: Write posts on your page on a regular basis. The above 2 links can help provide you with ideas and pictures to make posts or you can use stock photo websites such as www.123RF.com. Posts can be done 2-3 times a day but at least once per day would be the minimum. If you’re not able to be on Facebook off and on all day you can write your posts all in one go and then schedule them (see below) to go out rather than have them all post at the same time – more chance of engagement.

  4. INSIGHTS: At the top of your Facebook page there is a link to “insights”. This will tell you how your page is doing and how far your posts are reaching. Use this information to repeat similar messages or change the message where there is no engagement.

There is a lot more that can be done to use Facebook for business but this should get you started!
